The MSJC women's volleyball team will begin the 2024 season on Friday night on the San Jacinto Campus when they host San Diego Mesa College at 5 pm.
The Eagles are coming off their third conference championship in the past four seasons and in 2023 set a program record with 23 wins. MSJC finished the year with a 23-6 record and defeated Riverside City College in the opening round of the 3C2A Regional Tournament before seeing their season end at top ranked Grossmont in the second round. The Eagles were making their sixth playoff appearance in the past eight seasons.
The 2024 version of the Eagles squad will need to replace a lot of offense from 2023, but they have six sophomores returning to join with a strong group of freshmen to get the job done.
Leading the way with the returning group is outside hitter Megan Gajda, who as a freshman recorded 202 kills, 208 digs, and 21 block assists on her way to being named 2nd Team All Inland Empire Athletic Conference. Hailey Frary also returns up front, the middle blocker, was credited with 112 kills in 2023 as well as 9 solo blocks and 55 block assists. Outside hitter Josephine Springer wil look to have a bigger role in her sophomore season after an outstanding Spring for the Eagles during the Beach season. Springer and her partner qualified for 3C2A State Tournament and made it all the way to the Round of 16.
MSJC also returns some experience in the back row as liberos Brooklyn Jimenez and Anna Ayala return. Jimenez picked up 151 digs during her freshman season in just 78 sets played. The Eagles also have a veteran setter returning to the line up with Kalia Anady back for her sophomore season. Anady fought through some injuries in 2023, but played in 64 sets dishing out 218 assists.
The Eagles, led by 10th year head coach Serinna Eason, have notched 7 winning seasons in a row.
The 2024 season starts with a flurry of matches in the opening couple of weeks, following Friday's opener the Eagles will travel to Palomar, Mira Costa, and the LA Mission Tournament before returning home on September 4th to take on San Diego City.
