The MSJC women's volleyball team had a very busy open to their season as they played five matches in 8 days to kick off their 2024 campaign.
The Eagles opened the season at home on August 23rd against defending state champion and top ranked San Diego Mesa. MSJC fell in that contest 3-0, but all three sets were very competitive dropping the match 19-25, 21-25, and 23-25. The team's next match was on the road at Palomar and once again the Eagles fell in three close sets 23-25, 20-25, and 20-25. This past Friday MSJC traveled to Mira Costa and in another tight match lost in four sets 27-25, 21-25, 14-25, and 24-26.
Saturday the Eagles wrapped up the week with a pair of matches at LA Mission, in the first game of the day MSJC swept Citrus 25-13. 25-14, and 25-12 to earn their first victory of the year. In match two the Eagles won the first set against Mission 25-23, before losing the next three 17-25. 25-27, and 24-26.
Through five matches on the year the MSJC offense has been led by Megan Gajda with 38 kills, Audrey Franks is next with 30, and Josephine Springer has 23. Jade Tolliver has a team high 44 assists. On defense Springer leads the way with 52 digs while Brooklyn Jimenez is next at 48. For MSJC at the net on defense Hailey Frary has recorded 4 solo blocks and 6 block assists and Lorena Lopez has 3 solo blocks and 4 block assists.
MSJC will be back in action this week when they host San Diego City in San Jacinto Wednesday night at 5 pm. Friday the 1-4 Eagles will travel to Pasadena for a pair of matches as they take on the host Lancers at 11 am and Ventura College at 1:30 pm.
