Eagles Cap Off 3-0 Week With Thrilling Five Set Win Over Palomar

The MSJC volleyball team ended an unbeaten week on Friday night with an exciting five set home win over visiting Palomar.

The Eagles started the week Tuesday in Orange County when they traveled to Cypress where they came away with a 3-1 win over the Chargers. MSJC won the opening set 28-26 and took a 2-0 lead after winning the second 25-23. Cypress would rally to take the third 17-25 but the Eagles responded by ending the match in the fourth 28-26. Daija Malcolm knocked down a match best twenty-seven kills she also picked up eleven digs. Angelina Browder dished out thirty-eight assists on offense and Destiny Affor made twelve digs on defense. At the net Lorna Lopez had three block assists and Shannon Frary had a solo block and a pair of block assists.

Wednesday the Eagles were right back on the road as they traveled to LA City College. MSJC wasted little time taking control of the match as they swept the Cubs 25-12, 25-10, and 25-10. Lopez led a balanced offense with eight kills, Tala Paige Gurganious had seven while Sophia Castro picked up eight digs.

The Eagles capped off the busy week on Friday when they hosted Palomar College on the San Jacinto Campus and earned the five-set victory. MSJC fell behind two sets to one before rallying to win the fourth 25-20 and the fifth 19-17 for the win. Malcolm had twenty-two kills and sixteen digs; Lilly Galvin made fourteen digs. Frary and Lopez both had a solid night all around with Frary recording eleven kills, a solo block, and four block assists while Lopez had nine kills, three solo blocks, and a pair of block assists.

The three wins improved the Eagles season record to 4-4 on the year. MSJC will be back in action with three road matches this week. Wednesday the Eagles travel to San Diego Miramar where they will take on both the host Jets and Mira Costa. MSJC will play Mira Costa at 1 pm and Miramar at three. Friday the Eagles travel to San Diego City.
