Amanda Clark, who has been an assistant coach for the past two years in the MSJC softball program, was named as the team's new head coach on Monday.

Clark, who played collegiately at The University of Redlands, takes over for Gina Oliver who led the Eagles program for the past 19 seasons.  Oliver was named the Foothill Conference Coach of the Year in 2010 and led the program to a pair of postseason appearances.

After Clark finished her playing career at Redlands, she got the opportunity to play overseas.  Clark spent time playing in Switzerland.  When Clark returned from Europe she went back to Redlands University where she served as an assistant coach during the 2016 season.  Clark went on to earn her Masters Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Psychology at Long Beach State where she worked in the Athletic Department as a mental sports consultant intern.

"I'm super excited to have this opportunity and am looking forward to some new things we can do with the girls," said Clark.  "Being able to be an assistant the past two years has given me a better idea of what they need to be successful, we are really going to concentrate on work ethic and commitment to the program".  Clark was also excited about the possibility to add a couple of assistant coaches of her own that she thinks will help pump new excitement into the program. "We are looking forward to building a culture that players want to be a part of."

Clark also sees the current situation with the Covid-19 pandemic as a unique opportunity with her team.  "Obviously it's a strange time, but I think it's a good time to do some things in a different way". she added. "We have the chance to really get to know our players off the field and through Zoom and other things we can stay up to speed with our workouts and the things we really want to focus on."  Clark hopes that her student-athletes will, "Grow in their love of the game, and keep growing through the challenge they are currently facing."

Clark and her program are still actively recruiting for the 2021 season.  If interested you can contact Coach Clark at aclark@msjc.edu
