Softball: Eagles Defeat Desert, Swept by Chaffey

The MSJC softball team won an exciting game on Wednesday as they defeated College of the Desert, but lost two times on Friday at Chaffey.

Wednesday the Eagles fell behind 1-0 after three innings, but scored twice in the bottom of the 4th and two more times in the bottom of the 6th to pull out a 4-2 win over Desert.  Maya Felipe and Hailey Cardenas both drove in two runs each for MSJC.  Felipe hit a triple down the first base line in the 4th to score Jasmine Barerras and Veronica Prado to give MSJC the lead.  In the 6trh a double to right by Cardenas scored the Eagles other two runs.  Amanda Gromko threw a strong game in the circle as she went 7 innings allowing just one earned run and striking out 8.

Friday the Eagles lost to Chaffey by scores of 8-0 and 9-6.  In the 8-0 loss MSJC managed just two hits as Amy Naranjo and Azaylea Carrasco each had a single.

In game two MSJC tried to come back from a 7-0 defecit, but came up short in the 9-6 game.  Chelsi Washburn, Naranjo, Carrasco, and Maya Felipe were credited with one RBI each in the game.  Washburn and Alexis Aldridge both had 2 hits in the loss.

MSJC is now 14-14 overall on the season and 7-4 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles travel to Victor Valley on Wednesday, before hosting Cerro Coso in a doubleheader on Friday.  Friday's games are scheduled for 12 pm and 2 pm and are MSJC's final home games of the season.
