Eagle Softball Splits Doubleheader in Home Opener

The MSJC softball team split a doubleheader on Monday with LA Harbor in their first home contests of the season on the Menifee Campus.

In game one the Eagles had 7 hits, and left 7 runners on base, but could not push across any runs as they fell to the Seahawks 6-0.  Natalie Juarez and Abigail Patrick both had two hits for MSJC, one of Patrick's was a double.  Marissa Sanchez was the Eagles' starting pitcher, she went 4 innings allowing 2 earned runs while striking out 3.  Kayla Mendoza pitched the final three innings of the game and allowed 2 unearned runs.  Harbor took advantage of a couple defensive mistakes by MSJC as they scored 4 unearned runs in the game.

The Eagles bounced back in game two as they jumped out to a 9-0 lead after three innings and won 9-2.  Madison Morris had a big game at the plate as she went 3 for 4 with a double and 4 RBIs.  Carolina Blanco and Juarez also hit doubles for MSJC with Blanco driving home a pair of runs.  Juarez and Annalie Castanon both also picked up an RBI in the win.  Laila Andrade and Bailey Heuer had two hits a piece as the Eagles pounded out a total of 14 hits.  Stephanie Wagner earned the pitching victory as she went all 7 innings for the Eagles allowing just two runs.

MSJC is now 3-1 on the season and will travel to Santa Ana on Thursday for a 2 pm game.
