WBB: Eagles Cruise to Opening Night Win

The MSJC women's basketball team opened up a 31-9 lead at the end of the first quarter on Friday night and never looked back as they won their season opener at home over Taft 103-42.

The Eagles dominated the offensive glass as they started the game struggling to score from the outside, but second chance points allowed them to build the early lead.  MSJC would finish the night out rebounding Taft 72-30 as four different Eagles reached double figures in rebounds.

MSJC also had a balanced scoring attack as four players reached double figures and eleven different Eagles scored in all.  Sophomore Alexis Pina led the way as she scored 22 points while also pulling in 11 rebounds.  Maliyah Bosley also collected a double double as she scored 12 points and pulled down a game best 12 rebounds to go along with 5 assists.  Freshman Valeria Brewer came off the bench to add a spark as she scored 16 points and had 3 assists.  Sandee Heiermann also reached double figures with 12 points, while Jheisymae Artagame had 9 points and Alexus Williams had 8 to go along with 10 boards.  Shyann Morreo stuffed the stat sheet as well with 7 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals.

The Eagles will return to action on Thursday and Friday this week as they host the Annual San Jacinto Lion's Club Tip-Off Classic.  Thursday MSJC will take on Antelope Valley at 6 pm and Friday the Eagles host #1 ranked Palomar at 5 pm.  Both days Long Beach City College will be playing two hours prior to the MSJC games as they take on Palomar Thursday and Antelope on Friday.
