WBB: Eagles Win Two Over Hancock and ELAC

The MSJC women's basketball team won two games on the road over the weekend as they defeated East Los Angeles and Allan Hancock in a pair of contests at Palomar College.

The Eagles on Friday fell behind after the first quarter 18-11 against East LA, before a 16-3 second period gave them a six point halftime lead at 27-21.  The game stayed close in the second half with MSJC never giving up the lead despite 11 points being the largest margin of the game.  The Eagles won by a final of 60-52.  Sandee Heiermann led the MSJC offense with a season high 20 points.  Rayven Crook added 12 points and 3 assists while Alexis Pina pulled down a game high 15 rebounds to go along with 7 points and Monica Malone added 7 points off the bench.

Saturday the Eagles once again fell behind after the first period as they trailed 21-15 after one.  The second period was once again the difference as MSJC out scored Hancock 17-8 in the second to lead at the halftime break 32-29.  Nine fourth quarter points from Pina helped seal the deal for the Eagles as they defeated the Bulldogs 68-63.  Pina finished the game with a team high 16 points and also snared a game best 15 rebounds for the second day in a row.  Jana Roman gave MSJC huge minutes off the bench as she finished the game with 12 points and 9 boards, while Valeria Brewer had 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting from the field.  Heiermann was solid once again as she finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and a game high 4 assists.

The Eagles improved to 4-1 on the season with the wins, they will have Thanksgiving week off, before returning to action December 2nd and 3rd.  The Eagles will host Skyline on Friday December 2nd and Santa Barbara on the 3rd as part of the Eagle Invitational.  The Skyline game on the 2nd tips off at 6 pm and the Santa Barbara game Saturday starts at 2.  Two hours prior each day Victor Valley will take on SBCC and Skyline.
