Women's Hoops Team Wins Final Two Games of 2022

The MSJC women's basketball team picked up two wins at the LA Trade Tech Classic on Wednesday and Thursday as they defeated Trade Tech and Rio Hondo to conclude the calendar year.

On Wednesday the Eagles used a strong second quarter to build a five point halftime lead over Trade Tech (10-9) on their way to a 64-60 win over the Beavers.  Jana Roman led the offensive effort with a team high 14 points in the victory, she also pulled in a game high 13 rebounds.  Jheisymae Artagame and Valeria Brewer both came off the bench to score 10 points for MSJC while Rayven Crook added 9.  Sandee Heiermann scored 6 points, grabbed 11 boards and dished out 5 assists.

Thursday a solid start by the Eagles helped them to a 56-50 win over Rio Hondo (10-8).  MSJC led 13-8 after the opening quarter and built their lead to 31-16 at halftime, before holding off a late rally from the Roadrunners.  Roman had another double double as she scored 14 points and grabbed a season high 19 rebounds.  Heiermann led the Eagle offense with 15 points.  Crook added 7 points and 8 boards, while Alexus Williams had 9 points and 10 boards off the bench.  MSJC was playing the game without the services of a pair of starters due to injury.

The two victories conclude the Eagles non-conference portion of their schedule with a record of 13-2.  MSJC will now turn their focus to Inland Empire Athletic Conference play where they are currently 1-0.  The team returns to action on Wednesday when they host Palo Verde at 5 pm, that game will be followed by a men's contest with Palo Verde at 7.
