The MSJC women's basketball team began their season on Thursday and Friday as they hosted the San Jacinto Lions Club Tip-Off Classic.

The Eagles posted a 1-1 record as they defeated Antelope Valley and lost a tough one to Long Beach City.

On Thursday the Eagles overcame a slow start to defeat AVC 84-55.  MSJC trailed 17-10 after the opening period, but came back to out score the Marauders 30-14 in the second to take a halftime lead of 40-31.  The Eagles pulled away in the second half behind a solid shooting night.  Lauren Pagtakhan led the offensive attack with 18 points, while both Breyonna Bell and Drasoni Kyles added 12 a piece.  Jana Roman had a double double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.  Kyles also had a game high 9 assists.

Friday was a different start for the Eagles as they came out hot early and built a double digit lead in the first quarter.  Long Beach though would fight their way back into the game cutting the MSJC lead to two by half and then out scoring the Eagles 24-11 in the third on their way to the 79-69 victory.  Natalie Deria led the MSJC offense as she scored a team high 23 points, Valeria Brewer added 13, and Bell reached double figures for the second straight night with 10.  Roman added a team high 9 rebounds and Bell dished out a team best 6 assists.

The Eagles will be back in action next week when they travel to San Marcos to take on East LA and Hancock in games hosted by Palomar.  Friday MSJC takes on ELAC and Saturday the Eagles will play Hancock with games both days tipping off at 4 pm.
