WBB: Eagles Win Two at Comet Crossover

The MSJC women's basketball team picked up a pair of impressive wins over the weekend as they defeated East Los Angeles and Allan Hancock at the Comet Crossover in San Marcos.

Friday MSJC raced out of the gates building leads of 16-0 and 20-2 against East LA on their way to a 50-39 victory.  The Eagles led by 11 at the half 32-21, and held off the Huskies the rest of the way.  Breyonna Bell led the way on offense as she scored a game high 21 points.  Drasoni Kyles also reached double figures in scoring for the Eagles with 12 on efficient 6 of 10 shooting from the field.  Jana Roman helped MSJC dominate the glass as she pulled in a season high 16 rebounds as the Eagles finished the day with a 41-27 rebounding advantage.  The MSJC defense forced East LA into 27 turnovers.

Saturday the Eagles pulled away from a relatively close match up in the fourth quarter out scoring Hancock 19-12, to grab a 64-52 victory.  Valeria Brewer was MSJC's top scorer in this one as she netted a game high 19 points.  Bell was next on the list with 13 and Roman notched a double double with 12 points and 12 boards.  Alaysia Kidwell and Vika Afungia came off the bench to add solid minutes as Kidwell finished the game with 8 points and 8 rebounds, while Afungia had 7 points and 3 rebounds.

The two wins improve the Eagles season record to 3-1, they will be right back in action on Wednesday when they host Palomar at 4 pm.
