WBB: #15 Eagles Let One Slip Away Late Against #4 Palomar

The MSJC women's basketball team led by 8 points heading into the final period on Wednesday, but couldn't hold off state #4 ranked Palomar as they fell 70-64 in a non-conference home game.

The Eagles were able to stem the tide early in the game as the Comets came out on fire connecting on 5 of 12 three point attempts in the opening quarter to build a 25-18 lead.  MSJC would close the gap to two by halftime at 36-34 as they outscored Palomar 15-11 in the second, holding the Comets to just 4 of 20 shooting in the period.  The Eagles then dominated the third quarter as they built a lead of 55-47 heading into the final 10 minutes, Valeria Brewer scored 10 of her game high 18 points in the third.  The Comets, however answered back in the fourth quarter making five more three pointers and holding the Eagles to just one field goal to pull out the victory.

For MSJC, Brewer's 18 points were followed by Breyonna Bell who ended the night with 15.  Drasoni Kyles added 9 points while Jana Roman had 8 points and a game high 14 rebounds.

The loss drops the Eagles, who came into the contest ranked #15 in the state, to 3-2 on the season while Palomar improved to 6-0.  MSJC will return to action this weekend when they host the Eagles Crossover on Friday and Saturday.  Friday MSJC will take on Skyline College at 6 pm and Saturday the Eagles will host LA Harbor in a 2 pm contest.  Victor Valley will take on Harbor Friday and Skyline Saturday two hours prior to the MSJC games.
