WBB: Eagles Win Two, Make it 11 in a Row

The MSJC women's basketball team traveled to Whittier during the holidays and came away with two more wins at the Rio Hondo Roadrunner Crossover to push their winning streak to 11 games.

Friday the Eagles opened the event with a fast start against Los Angeles Trade Tech building a 14-2 lead after the first quarter on their way to a 68-38 win over the Beavers.  Natalie Derla scored a team high 15 points in the victory while Jana Roman continued to pile up double doubles with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  Alaysia Kidwell had her best game of the season as she scored 13 points and grabbed a career high 21 rebounds.  Point guard Drasoni Kyles added 6 assists for MSJC.

Saturday MSJC took on the host team Rio Hondo and worked their way to a 12 point halftime lead before going on to win 79-64.  Breyonna Bell stuffed the stat sheet on the afternoon as she scored a game high 27 points, while also grabbing 6 rebounds, dishing out 5 assists, and making 5 steals.  Roman had another double double, this time with 12 points and 12 boards.  Valeria Brewer added 16 points and a game high 7 assists, while Derla recorded a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Kidwell reached double figures in rebounding for the second game in a row with 10.

MSJC improves to 14-2 with the two wins and have a pair of non-conference games remaining before opening Inland Empire Athletic Conference play.  Saturday the Eagles will host Trade Tech in a rematch from last weekend at 1 pm, before traveling to Mt. SAC on Wednesday January 10th.
