Eagle Volleyball Opens With Pair of Sweeps

MSJC's #9 Ruby Ruiz had 13 kills over two matches this weekend as the Eagle volleyball team started their season 2-0.

The MSJC volleyball team opened their season over the weekend and picked up a pair of victories at home over Cerritos and East Los Angeles.

On Friday night MSJC dominated the match from start to finish as they won by scores of 25-11, 25-10, and 25-15.  Ruby Ruiz led the offense with 9 kills while Luci Villfana added 7.  Chanelle Ongchangco finished with 5 kills while Aleya Starnes and Grace Tapia each had 4 for the balanced offensive attack.  Alex Sotello had 26 assists.  On the defensive side of the net Villfana had a team high 11 digs while Ruiz added 9.  Starnes had a pair of solo blocks and 4 block assists.

Saturday afternoon was much of the same for the Eagles as the team swept ELAC 25-13, 25-18, and 25-14.  Starnes led the way on offense this time with 12 kills, Villfana added 11.  Sotello contributed once again with 25 assists and on defense Kayla Thompson picked up a team best 11 digs.  The team combined for 3 solo blocks and 4 block assists.

The Eagles 2-0 on the young season will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on Riverside City College at 1 pm and San Diego Mesa at 5 pm, both matches are at home.
