The MSJC volleyball team jumped out to a two sets to none lead on Wednesday night and then had to rally back to win the fifth as they defeated Chaffey 3-2 in a key early Inland Empire Athletic Conference match.

The Eagles started slowly in the opening set, but were able to overcome an early deficit to win 26-24.  MSJC seemed to seize the momentum at that point as they easily won the second 25-11.  The Panthers would out last yet another Eagle comeback attempt to claim victory in the third 26-28 and then force a fifth set with a 18-25 win in the fourth.  The fifth set went back and forth early until MSJC finally took the lead for good at 10-9 and went on to win 15-12 for the victory.

Kennidy Martin led the offense in the match with 13 kills, Mckenna Conklin was right behind her with 12, and Brooklynn Thomas added 10.  A solid defensive effort led by 27 digs from Chloe Mata and 2 solo blocks and 5 block assists from Martin helped secure the win.  Trysta Vincelli had a team high 25 assists and Alicia Vasquez contributed with 13 of her own.

The win was the Eagles fourth in a row and kept them unbeaten in IEAC play with a record of 3-0, they are 10-7 overall on the season.  Chaffey fell for the first time in league play.  MSJC will have the weekend off before hosting College of the Desert on Wednesday October 12th.  Desert will enter the match as the only other unbeaten team in the IEAC.  Next Wednesday's match will begin at 5 pm.
